EasyCopy 6.0.2 Introduces Support for External Filters
SAN JOSE, Calif., December 10, 1999 - AutoGraph International (AGI) today announced a product release that provides an increasing depth and breadth in version 6.0.2. EasyCopy and EasyConvert, AGI's premier image communication tools for screen capture, conversion and printing, feature support for external filters in the new release. Now, there is support available to incorporate PostScript readers, 'uncompress' or 'gzip', proprietary formats as well as optional readers to give users an unprecedented flexibility.
Commonly, workstations have a PostScript reader, such as the popular GhostScript, that can export to a format understood by EasyCopy. The new support for external filters allows a combination of EasyCopy and the reader (placed on the user's path) so that the benefits of EasyCopy's raster manipulation capabilities and ease of use can be fully realized.
Compressed or gzipped files are common for use in saving disk space. If 'uncompress' or 'gunzip' are available on a system, EasyCopy may now make use of them. The use is automatic due to the external filter support.
Formats developed in-house or proprietary formats can be difficult to integrate with new applications. New data formats may also appear with format readers available from various sources. By integrating these readers with EasyCopy in the form of external filters (or plug-ins) you will get immediate and transparent support for these formats.
For users who work with CGM, HPGL and Calcomp 907 file formats, EasyCopy comes with optional readers for them (view and print only) and AGI continues to add well-tested and well documented filters to the list of AGI supplied filters.
The external filters become a fundamental part of the EasyCopy product and join with add-on products for unprecedented flexibility. For example, EasyCopy/Page may now be accessed directly from the EasyCopy GUI but encourages use of the external filters as the user is composing a page layout.
